Garden design planning

Design & Planning Process

A methodical approach to creating your garden systems

Our Design Process

Every garden lighting and irrigation system begins with careful planning. Our process ensures that the final installation meets your needs while working harmoniously with your garden's existing character.

1

Initial Consultation

We begin by discussing your goals, preferences, and how you use your garden. Understanding your vision guides all subsequent design decisions.

During this conversation, we learn about your priorities—whether you value ease of operation, energy efficiency, specific aesthetic outcomes, or particular functional requirements.

2

Site Assessment

A detailed site visit allows us to document your garden's layout, existing features, plantings, and environmental conditions. We measure distances, note elevations, and identify access points.

We observe how light moves through your space at different times, where water naturally collects or runs off, and how the garden changes throughout the day and seasons.

3

Design Development

Using the information gathered, we create detailed plans showing component placement, routing, and system configuration. Lighting plans indicate fixture locations and beam directions.

Irrigation plans show line routes, zone boundaries, and component placement. These plans are drawn to scale and include notes about installation details.

4

Review & Refinement

We present the design plans and discuss how the system will function. This is an opportunity to refine details and ensure the design aligns with your expectations.

Adjustments can be made at this stage before any installation begins. We explain how each component contributes to the overall system performance.

5

Installation Planning

Once the design is approved, we create an installation schedule that minimises disruption to your garden. We plan the sequence of work and identify any areas requiring special care.

Timing considerations include weather conditions, plant growth stages, and your availability for access during installation.

6

Installation & Commissioning

During installation, we work carefully to preserve existing plantings and features. Components are installed according to the approved plans, with attention to detail at every step.

Once installation is complete, systems are tested, calibrated, and programmed. We provide training on operation and basic maintenance so you can use your systems effectively.

Design Principles

Our design approach is guided by several principles that ensure effective, harmonious installations:

Integration

Systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing garden features rather than imposing upon them.

Functionality

Every component serves a purpose. Design decisions are based on practical requirements rather than assumptions.

Efficiency

Lighting uses energy efficiently, and irrigation delivers water precisely where needed without waste.

Maintainability

Systems are designed for reliable operation with accessible components that can be serviced when needed.

Documentation & Plans

Detailed documentation for your project

Technical Drawings

Scale drawings show exact component placement, routing paths, and connection points. These plans serve as installation guides and future reference documents.

Specification Sheets

Detailed component specifications ensure correct materials are used and provide information for future maintenance or upgrades.

Operation Manuals

Customised operation guides explain how to use your specific system, including programming instructions and troubleshooting tips.
